Cantilever SEIRS Racking Installation

September 1, 2017

We recently installed some cantilever racking in a small warehouse. Cantilever is defined as a beam that is anchored at one end only and allows efficient storage of bulky, oversized loads such as timber and plaster boards, piping and carpets.

The photos here show you the different components of a cantilever rack and how we go about installing such racking.

Cantilever Uprights

The uprights are the vertical beam that supports the arm. Cantilever can be single or double sided so can be used against a wall or back to back. The uprights are extremely strong vertical posts that support the arms

Base The bases are bolted to the floor to support the uprights. These provide the support and stability to allow the uprights to bear the load.

The base is heavy and often made of steel. It gives strong support and extends out from the bottom of the rack to counter-balance the heavy weight of the stored items.

Arms

Racking arms are the horizontal beams that support the load when stored. They can be set at different angles depending on storage requirements. The arms themselves are the “shelves” that extend from the uprights. They store your inventory.

Braces As you can see in the photo's, the braces are placed on the back and used to add strength and rigidity to the cantilever racking

The major benefits of cantilever racking depend upon your storage needs. If your business only stores small products that are easily stacked on pallets, cantilever racks may not be for you. Pallet racks offer more options for that type of storage and allow for more efficient usage of available space.

Does your warehouse store larger, bulkier items or currently use any floor stacking for items that don’t fit on pallets? Cantilever racks can give you the flexibility you need to store all of your goods. Cantilever racks are easy to install, relatively easy to reconfigure, and easy to arrange in ways pallet racks can’t.
