HSE guidelines recommend an annual SEMA inspection for your pallet racking. The word 'recommend' can sometimes be a little confusing. The guidance is not compulsory and you are free to take other action but if you follow the guidance you WILL be doing enough to comply with law. Warehouse owners are legally obliged to ensure the safety of employees and visitors. HSE recommend an annual SEMA inspection and weekly checks by a 'competent' person. This can be a trained member of staff who can confidently recognise any damage, so it can be dealt with efficiently.
Although it is not a legal requirement, in not having an annual SEMA pallet racking inspection, you are opening yourself up to a legal and moral responsibility. If an accident were to happen a person could argue that you did not ensure their safety.
Our SARI inspectors can provide an independent inspection to ensure the safety of your system along with a detailed report of any damage, weakness and recommendations.
